SCHOOLCHILDREN LIGHT UP THE SHARD IN ANNUAL FESTIVE LIGHT DISPLAY

· Shard Lights illuminates the top 20 storeys of The Shard for Western Europe’s highest light show

· This year’s design created by local schoolchildren in Bermondsey

· The display will launch on the 2nd December and close with a special display on New Year’s Eve

The Shard’s annual festive display – Shard Lights – will return on Monday 2nd December. The event will see the top 20 storeys of Western Europe’s tallest building transformed into a vibrant spectacle, visible across the capital throughout the month of December.

This year’s Shard Lights display has been designed by children from a local school in Bermondsey, who will be present for the live switch-on of the lights on Monday 2nd December, 2019.

Those keen to have the best view of Western Europe’s highest light show are encouraged to visit nearby Vinegar Yard, which has been transformed into a warm covered space offering an array of festive treats and unobstructed views of Shard Lights.

The light show will feature three, nine-minute sequences displayed every half hour from 4pm to 1am each evening throughout the month. The sequences will reflect the designs created by the schoolchildren, creating an exciting and inspiring visual display to light up the capital.

On New Year’s Eve there will also be a unique one-off display from when the clock strikes midnight to the early hours of New Year’s Day.

Real Estate Management (UK) Limited (“REM”), the asset manager of The Shard, has collaborated with renowned lighting designer, Woodroffe Bassett Design to create the installation. More than 8,000m of cable and 552 LED lights and fixtures are used in the show.
