Mimi Doulton (soprano)

In January 2019 Opera Prelude soprano Mimi Doulton decided to embark beyond the high Cs and seek out a new vocal horizon. This lecture looks at the history of high soprano roles alongside key interpreters who have inspired her as she trains: from Edita Gruberova and Lucia Popp's legendary super Fs as the Queen of the Night, to the extended ranges of Audrey Luna and Mado Robin - who could sing the C above a high C! This historical overview will be interspersed with personal anecdotes from Mimi’s first encounters with this repertoire, covering a breadth of music from Mozart and Donizetti, via Sullivan to Jonathan Dove and Thomas Ades.

Opera Prelude is a small charity passionate about supporting young professional opera singers who give recitals in London. These friendly and inclusive events will introduce you to the international opera singers of tomorrow by way of recitals, concerts and masterclasses.
