Robert Griffith explores the actions of the 5/60th Rifles during the Peninsular War. This talk is in partnership with the Society for Army Historical Research.
The 5/60th was the first rifle battalion in the British Army and fought throughout the Peninsular War. It was one of only three units present from the landings in 1808 through to victory in France in 1814.
Author Robert Griffith will tell the story of their service by discussing some of the extraordinary and distinctly roguish characters he discovered while researching his book 'Riflemen'. You will hear tales of looting, murder and treachery, but also steadfastness, loyalty and heroism.
This event is run jointly with the Society for Army Historical Research.
