This April, for a limited period, self-taught Canadian artist TRATE will be exhibiting the launch of his second series, Technicolour Malaise, at the solo pop-up at 15 Bateman St, Soho from 16th-18th April 2020.
Held in private collections around the world, including in Canada, Mexico, France and the UAE, TRATE is launching his figurative works to the London arts scene, with a collection of bold, emotive and figurative large-scale, oil-on-canvas paintings, each resembling of his haunting and childlike style.
Painting under an alias that refers to the physical ‘traits’ of people, Technicolour Malaise captures human sensibilities in deceptively simple and subconsciously sourced forms. Working with handmade paints, enhanced by large ratios of walnut, safflower and linseed oils, TRATE’s vibrant aesthetic is defined by traceable brush strokes, haunting facial features bereft of any depth of field and colour filled backgrounds.
