This delightful walk lasts under 2 ours and is a delicious mix of the classic sights of the city (Big Ben, Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace, Whitehall and 10 Downing Street to mention just a few) with the less expected as we walk hand in hand with history and step by step with the environment. We’ll start with Old Father Thames and imagine how things were on the river 500 years ago, with music on barges, fishing boat's oars pulling up lilies; we’ll see how wide the river used to be by a disused gateway once used by nobles.

Ever since the Romans chose this swampy land for a trading port, London has had a danger of flooding and we’ll meet the lions that raise an alarm and we’ll see what the future holds for London as sea levels rise. Together we’ll marvel at Big Ben and find out its problematic start, meet an ancient British Queen who fought the Romans with knives on her chariot, reminisce at a place where an English king lost his head and nearby where another king, a certain Henry VIII, once jousted. We’ll uncover a lost royal palace, and find out about London’s constant battle with its own waste, times of “nightsoil men” and cholera , culminating in the Great Stink when the river smelled terrible and created the greatest Victorian engineering feat of the sewer system and the embanking of the Thames. We’ll even find out about the end of muddy London in a quiet square right by Trafalgar Square that heralded the advent of pavements.

This is an amazing tour that brings together London’s history and environment all in just two hours! Walks don’t get better than this.
