POP ART the Portfolios, an exhibition of thirty synoptic POP images from the 1960’s and 70’s. The show presents works assembled from key portfolios of the period and features works by artists including :

Jim Dine, Richard Hamilton, Robert Indiana, Roy Lichtenstein, Claes Oldenburg, Mel Ramos, Robert Rauschenberg, Larry Rivers, Andy Warhol, & Tom Wesselmann.

The four main portfolios selected are:

One Cent Life, edited by Sam Francis and conceived by Walasse Ting to bring together American Pop Art and European Expressionism.

S*** Must Stop, published by William Copley to create a conduit between the artist and the audience without the editorial interference of Galleries.

Artists & Photographs, instigated by Lawrence Alloway for Marian Goodman’s imprint, Multiples Inc. Intended to show the importance of Photographs to contemporary artists.

New York Collection for Stockholm, published by E.A.T. with Pontus Hulten, of the Moderna Museet, Stockholm from 1960-73, to support the acquisition of work by participating artists.

Additional works from Aspen #3, Pop Art One, Technics and Creativity.

The gallery will show non-pop works from the portfolios to provide temporal context and stylistic contrast.
