Photographer Michael Antoniou launches his first solo exhibition at Open the Gate in Dalston, displaying a selection of photos taken while travelling in Kenya

Michael first developed an interest in photography when he travelled to Trinidad and Tobago back in 2002, taking with him a 2MP Olympus digital camera. The photos taken on this trip as well as the experience of exploring these beautiful islands inspired Michael to do more travelling and take more photos.

Michael has since developed a strong client base in the media sector, producing imagery for many recording artists in the music biz, often covering live events and music festivals as well as producing artwork for album covers.

Travelling to Kenya, East Africa, Michael took it upon himself to make contacts in the slums of Nairobi, collaborating with an NGO in one slum and producing a short documentary film, this is the first documentary project that Michael has created, with more in the pipeline.

A contribution of 10% of all sales will be donated to the charity, Annos' Africa. Funds and resources will be used to hold workshops for the children of these slums to have a go at photography. Any old camera equipment or other donations will be warmly appreciated.

To highlight this work the exhibition will be launched on Thursday 24th November, running until 4th January. Being his first solo exhibition, Michael has lined up a launch night including 5 live acts, musicians and friends he has worked with over the last few years. An online version of the exhibition will also go live on the day of the launch, available to view website.
