Come and join us for Masahiro Wadayama's first and only show in the UK.
Masahiro Wadayama has created this stunning collection entitled Deko Boko, (meaning Rough/Uneven in Japanese). Although at first glance the pieces have a rough texture on closer inspection there is a beautiful smoothness and tactility to each one.

The award winning Japanese potter plays with the idea of duality in his work by combining his heritage and Japanese craftsmanship with his interpretation of western ceramics. The combination of these two elements proves to be challenging yet rewarding, creating a cohesive tension in his work.

Originally from Osakasayama city in Japan, Masahiro studied ceramics in the United States, graduating in 2008 from the University of South Dakota with a B.F.A. He has since won numerous awards in the US, New Zealand and Japan for his innovative work. Immersed in two different cultural traditions his work combines western and Japanese production methods to make objects that are both beautiful and functional.

After hundreds of test glazes (glass formula), Masahiro started layering glazes to bring gradation to his work as this layering of several different glazes creates a unique chemical reaction during firing. By controlling the thickness of the glazes and the temperature and speed of cooling of the kiln, the calm beauty of the final glaze combines strikingly with his organic shapes.
