Just east of London's financial district marks the
start of the East End, once a scruffy hinterland. The urban character of Whitechapel and beyond has in recent years been undergoing a transformation as London prepares for the 2012 Olympic games.

From the Greenway, the only major public walkway running through the heart of the Olympic Park, view the changing landscape and progress of the largest construction site in Europe, including the sweeping roof of the Aquatics Centre by Zaha Hadid and the recently completed striking Western Red Cedar timber Velodrome, by Hopkins.

This area was once one of the most underdeveloped areas of London, which has now seen a wealth of investment into infrastructure and landscape and to ensure a lasting legacy.

On the way explore Trinity Buoy Wharf, an artist community of converted shipping containers and home to London's only lighthouse, Wapping and the Canary Wharf development.

Coach and walking tour, departing from City of London Information Centre, St Paul's Churchyard EC4M 8BX at 10am
