Buddhist Art Treasures to Visit Vauxhall

A unique collection of Buddhist art will go on show in Vauxhall later this month, marking its first visit to the UK. The exhibition brings together rare and ancient paintings, statues and other artefacts from Tibet, Nepal and the surrounding Himalayan region, providing a fascinating insight into the history and culture of the area. A joint exhibition of contemporary art will provide a rich added dimension.

The exhibition features more than 50 separate items including gilded statues, ritual ornaments and embroidered scroll paintings, some of which are more than 16 feet tall. The oldest piece in the exhibition is a 2,000-year-old stone statue of the Buddha, carved in what is now Afghanistan.

The exhibition – entitled Space for Mind, Space for Art – will be open to the public between 28th May and 3rd June 2012 at the Spring Project in Vauxhall.
