Between 1st and 4th of June there will be an exhibit of Polish Posters in the crypts of St George the Martyr Church in Borough, London, SE1 1JA.

Organised by the Nowy Czas newspaper as part of their cyclical project, in cooperation with renowned Cracow Poster Gallery (a leading institution in this field) the ARTeria aims to promote Polish artists living and working in London.

The exhibition is composed out of two separate themes:

I. LONDON CONNECTIONS
Posters of artists who have a connection to London — they live, work, study here or in some cases have only spent a few months here. The works displayed are partly by artists who specialise in the field, but also by those who specialise in other artistic forms but for whom poster making was important in their creative development. The exhibition will hold the works by: Michał Bończa, Monika Ciapala, Joanna Ciechanowska, Sława Harasymowicz, Maria Kaleta, Katarzyna Kałdowska, Mariusz Kałdowski, Andrzej Klimowski, Andrzej Krauze, Zuzanna Lipińska, Justyna Niedzińska, Ryszard Rybicki, Olga Sienko and Rosław Szaybo.

II. CRACOW POSTER GALLERY
Posters from the collection of the renown Poster Gallery in Cracow. The exhibition will showcase the most famous pieces of work from the hight of success of the Polish School of Posters as well as their successors and the current generation of artists. Artists like Mirosław Adamczyk, Elżbieta Chojna, Kaja Renkas, Sabastian Kubica and Monika Starowicz will be displaying their work.

Posters are showpieces of Poland in the same way that Chopin, Wajda and Kieslowski are. In the 1960s the term Polish School of Posters was coined. It referred to the varying techniques and truly unique character of the artists who have created the posters. The best well known artists include such people as Henryk Tomaszewski, Eryk Lipiński, Józef Mroszczak, Jan Lenica, Jan Młodożeniec, Waldemar Świerzy, Roman Cieślewicz and Franciszek Starowieyski. Original in both message and style, posters were appreciated not only in Poland but also abroad. Today the artistic poster is undermined by the commercial advertising seen in public spaces. Nevertheless this unique form of visual communication continues to influence new generations of designers.

More and more people are becoming enthusiasts of Polish Posters. Come and join them.
