Birkbeck, University of London and the School of Business, Economics and Informatics (BEI) announces its third annual Business Week, which this year also marks the 20thanniversary of the Department of Management. Business Week runs from 25 June to 28 June at the Clore Management Centre at Birkbeck.

To celebrate the event, there will be a series of free lectures and panel events, open to all, focusing on some of the most pressing issues facing business today: growth and where to find it, the crisis of capitalism and the politics of leadership.

Guest speakers nclude:
· Will Hutton, Principal of Hertford College, Oxford University and chair of the Big Innovation Centre at The Work Foundation. Will is a leading economic commentator and a compelling orator. He will deliver his lecture entitled: ‘Bad capitalism has got us into this situation, now good capitalism must get us out’ on Thursday 28th June from 6:15pm - 9:00pm

· Professor Andrew Pettigrew, Said Business School, University of Oxford, a distinguished organizational theorist, will deliver the Department’s annual Alec Rodger Memorial Lecture on Tuesday 26 June at 6:15pm

· Professor Jonathan Michie, Chair and discussant will also be in attendance. He will address other subjects on the agenda including entrepreneurship and innovation.

In addition to the guest lectures, there will be an “Enterprising London" panel of speakers, courtesy of Birkbeck’s Centre for Innovation Management Research (CIMR) on 28 June from 4-6pm. The Centre’s research encompasses the role of innovation and entrepreneurship - Professor Helen Lawton Smith and Dr Pierre Nadeau will provide a brief introduction to the entrepreneurship agenda. Panel speakers will include Nigel Biggs, Birkbeck alumnus, successful businessman and entrepreneur-in-residence at the University of Surrey and Andrew Atter, specialist in leadership, governance and entrepreneurship in emerging, high growth markets. They will be joined by Salim Virani, entrepreneur-in-residence at UCL and founder of Founder-centric, a start-up peer-support programme for founders, and Rob Fitzpatrick, member of the General Assembly and founder of the Startup Toolkit. This panel discussion will showcase London’s entrepreneurial culture, highlighting key issues relating to starting, growing and managing a successful business, from incubation to exit.

Business Week events are open to all and are free to attend but require prior registration here.
