Are you putting your safety at risk by riding a bike that isn’t roadworthy? As an increasing number of London cyclists are set to take to the streets this summer, Barclays, sponsor of Barclays Cycle Hire and Barclays Cycle Superhighways, has teamed up with social enterprise BikeWorks to provide free roadside ‘Bike Clinics’; bicycle safety checks for cyclists across the capital.

Four clinics have been created to promote regular bike maintenance and help morning and evening rush hour commuters along the Barclays Cycle Superhighways in Tower Hamlets, Kensington & Chelsea, Lambeth and Hammersmith & Fulham.

The clinics with be manned by graduates of the Barclays sponsored ‘Cycle Into Work’ scheme, which up-skills disadvantaged Londoners into working within the city’s growing cycling industry.

New research from Barclays shows over a third of London’s cyclists (34%) do not keep their bikes roadworthy because they find it too expensive, it takes up too much time or they simply lack the basic skills.

For cyclists unable to visit the four Bike Clinic locations on 2nd July, Barclays has announced a partnership with Evans Cycles offering a 15% discount off bike checks and a 10% discount off any components for the month of July. Evans Cycles vouchers will be available from Monday 2nd July via Facebook.com/BarclaysBikes
