The workshop is mainly aimed at secondary school children, but interested adults are also very welcome to book a place. Participants will construct a pinhole camera using little more than a soft drink can, tape, paper, a pin and kitchen foil.

Once the cameras have been made, participants will to try them out immediately to take photographs of the surrounding area. We will be using so-called ‘direct positive paper’ - from the participants’ point of view, this just means that the positive image is accessible almost immediately, rather than going through the longer negative/positive process of most traditional photographic materials.

The Chapel Gallery is equipped with a traditional black & white darkroom. The organisers will process photographs for participants – unfortunately, for health & safety reasons, we are unable to expose the general public to photographic chemicals.

Processed prints will be displayed in a mini-exhibition of participants’ work over the course of the day.

There will be two sessions from 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm. Places are limited to 12 participants per session and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

Please request a place for your child (or yourself) by sending an email to: [email protected] detailing:
• the participant’s or participants’ name(s) and age(s) (we can only take from age 12 upwards)
• morning or afternoon session (10.00-13.00 or 14.00-17.00)
• the name of the adult taking responsibility for any participants under the age of 18

With regret, we must insist all under 18 year old workshop participants are accompanied by a responsible adult for the duration of the workshop and that parents/guardians sign a form to this effect. Forms will be available on arrival at the Gallery.
