Copa Futbolito: Your Streets – Your Rules

It’s the latest street-sport craze, only this one needs 11 foosmen, lightning reactions and some very small balls. In Mexico it’s known as Futbolito and this summer it’s coming to the streets of East London.

Copa Futbolito, brought to you by el Jimador tequila, sees six specially designed, free to play, Mexican football tables installed across the city.

After the disappointment of watching England’s performance in Euro 2012, Copa Futbolito lets you recreate the passion and intensity of South American football by taking the beautiful game to the streets. Your streets.

The excitement kicks off with a weekend-long Futbolito fiesta at Brick Lane’s Vibe Bar. The Bar will be hosting the el Jimador Copa, a tournament played across all six tables in its shaded courtyard on 28 and 29 July. The tournament will play out to a soundtrack of DJs with drinks from el Jimador, the fifth man at the table. All players have to do is turn up on the Saturday at Vibe Bar, put their names down for the tournament and wait to ‘flick off’.

And after the Copa, you and three of your mates can get all the summer footie action you want around a pitch you control, playing to your own rules, as the tables move to their new homes. Need more power to get that final goal in the back of the net? Spin that handle with everything you’ve got - it’s the spirit that counts with Futbolito.

The tables will be designed by London-based street artist Rich Simmons. Simmons is a self taught stencil artist, who as well as exhibiting his work on the streets, has also held a number of exhibitions of his work.

Charged with bringing to life the coolest influences from the streets of Mexico City and mixing it up with his stencil style, Simmons will give each table a unique design for each location.
