Graham Hunter Gallery is proud to present '2012 London Art' an insight into London, through its’ places and people, featuring the very different, but complimentary works of established artists Colin Ruffell and Fran Slade.

In this exhibition Colin Ruffell's paintings and prints concentrate on his long obsession with London and its iconic buildings, vistas and Thames landscapes. Ruffell captures, in his work, a surprisingly unpopulated, almost misty vision of the river threaded city that respects its long history whilst still capturing a real feeling of the present day. Modern, bold, tones, pin your eye to a canvas punctuated with flashes of colour, black taxis and London buses move you around the space he has created. The ever present red cranes speak of the burgeoning future of our ever expanding metropolis.

Fran Slade favours a naïve style and in this exhibition she presents some of London’s archetypal, colourful characters, collected under the title of “Cockneys, Costermongers & Eccentrics”. Whimsical in nature yet acutely observed, Slade breaths character and life into familiar subjects. These are Londoners we recognise and relate to, treated in a simple, unfussy manner that allows their personality and historical context to shine through.

Fran Slade is a fine painter who uses an economy of line and colour to create richly rewarding images that are more than simply the sum of their parts.
