October Gallery is pleased to host an exhibition of recent works by eighteen MA Photography students from the Royal College of Art. This dynamic group exhibition, All I Want Is Out Of Here, will include film, photography and installation.

The show’s title is a quote by the visual and literary artist
William S.Burroughs, whose subversive and experimental approach has influenced the artists in this show. This generation of emerging artists has grown up with a daily context of worldwide economic and ecological uncertainty; the work in this show reflects their constant negotiation of this context through the rapidly-changing field of photography and film. The assembled polyphony of voices suggests a collage of ideas that aims to open up new junctures, affording a glimpse into approaches to contemporary photographic practice.

This exhibition offers a preview of next year’s RCA Fine Art graduates and unveils an array of concerns underlying their work including reassessing public and private histories, the body and humour, the archive, temporal complexities of urban living and its discordant relationship with the land. Such themes allow for experimentation, while questioning what it means to observe, catch or construct meaning in the 21st Century.
