Ravel La Valse
Vaughan Williams A London Symphony

Our Thursday evening orchestral concert series kicks off with a welcome visit from RCM alumnus and renowned conductor John Wilson, fresh from not one but two Proms performances with his wildly successful John Wilson Orchestra.

The centrepiece of the concert is Ralph Vaughan Williams’ A London Symphony, dedicated to his fellow RCM alumnus George Butterworth. The four movement work conjures up sounds of the capital in the early 20th century, from the opening clock chimes, here invoked by the harp, to the Scherzo’s whirling evocation of Westminster Embankment at night.

This concert is preceded by a Q&A session with conductor John Wilson at 6.30pm in the RCM Museum.
