Transport for London are opening a special one off pop- up eatery to celebrate its catering history when the company fed and watered the tube and bus drivers, inspectors and staff that kept the capital moving upto the 1970s when the division finallyclosed. Run in conjunction with the London based "Canteen" restaurant group, the space is part of the London Design Festival and runs from 19-23 Sept. The pop up canteen will serve meals that look to Britain's culinary heritage. The space, designed by Michael Sodeau, features amazing images of canteen culture taken from London Transport archives, along with original upholstery and ceramic wall tiles from the tube. Contemporary furniture is by London brands Modus and Very Good &Proper.

This special pop up canteen can be found at Design Junction, one of the key venues happening all over the capital as part of London Design Festival. There will also be a series of 'designer teas' running throughout the event with the likes of Sebastian Conran talking to the public about his career as well as launching a public competition to design a range of canteen inspired tableware (to be made and sold by Transport for London).
