99 Mount Street Gallery are delighted to present 'Mediterranean: Works on Paper' a collection of works by one of the world's most respected etchers Joan Barbara. This collection of Barbara's etchings encompasses the artist's ability to draw on a spiritual elegance as well exhibiting a reverent devotion to the art form. Through his work the artist tries to comprehend a sense of modern sensitivity and elicit emotional revelation from it's viewer; a reflection of the sentiment, mood and personal world of the artist.

Barbara's focus on elements of the natural world seem to contemplate a mood that incorporates notions of the severe at the same time evoking feelings of deep mediation and spiritual retreat. The artist's work seem to carry a certain understanding of disposition of form and colour, an understanding born from a genuine creator developed in all art forms.

Joan Barbara was born 1927 in Barcelona. Over a career that has spanned over nearly seven decades, Barbara has exhibited in France, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and his homeland Spain, where currently resides.
