George and Jørgen are proud to present You Do the Talking, their second solo exhibition by painter Claire Dorsett. Showing the largest single collection of the artists’ work to date, Dorsett will be presenting new works on canvas and board.

Dorsett employs a strong, graphic rhetoric to communicate her ideas; the source material of which comes from notebooks, drawings, and her own memories. Although the paintings often have a confident communicative aspect, the artist is keen to emphasise the importance of the spectator to read each work in their own way: “what I’ve been thinking about isn’t necessarily what you see”. The works often have a loud, aggressive or comical tone; however, the thematic origins can come from a humorless or dry place, creating a tragicomic paradox. The visceral aspect of her practice matched with a clear visual tone creates a dichotomy and space in which the viewer is invited to ‘do the talking.’

Dorsett graduated with an MFA from the Slade School of Art in 2010. Since, she has been selected for various group exhibitions in London and abroad, including ‘A Wall is a Surface’ at London Newcastle and ‘Creative London’ at Space K Gwecheon in Seoul. This will be her third London solo show. Awards include the Andor Scholarship, The Nicholas Volley Bursary, the Peter and Betty McLean Memorial Prize and the Harry Walker Young Artist Prize by Bath Society of Artists. She has also recently been featured in 100 Artists To Watch in Modern Painters magazine.
