The Five Continents and more. Places, traditions and moods sketched and drawn from suggestive notes. Beatrice Poggio, illustrator, gathers in Dove everything the world has given, revealed, taught her. Eight places, and for each eight memories, eight impressions, different and unusual. With her distinctive ability to fuse different elements together and the spiritual charge ever present in her work, Beatrice offers the reader a selection of the illustrations traced in her notepad. A traveller cherished by travellers, an artist about to be discovered for the first time on the printed page.
From Keats to saris, from the Boccadasse district in Genova to the tea ceremony in Japan, from monkeys to t-shirts.
Dove is a list of the wonders inhabiting the Earth, of those priceless treasures within reach of all who hold a quiet and profound look at living. A journey rich of spirituality, details, symbols and matched by precious words, fragments of music, traditions, literature and life.
Beatrice Poggio describes her “where’s” as places of the soul, and the book becomes a long journey by foot throughout the entire world.
Once read, Dove seems to narrate familiar corners and stories we recognise, as if the marvels collected in its pages were nothing but the Earth that surrounds us.
Dove ( Where) is an unique edition, made precious by a large format silk screen cover and limited to 250 copies.
About the Artist
Travel is important to the work of Beatrice - physical journeys to discover new cultures and look for inspiration and emotional journeys to discover the human spirit.
Beatrice's images talk directly to the subconscious through universal symbols and themes: nature, Mother Earth, time, the feminine, dreams.
Beatrice uses various techniques, often mixed: printmaking, ink, collage, acrylic paint, pen and melding together techniques to create the picture on different surfaces like wood, canvas and furniture. The work of Beatrice Poggio is part of private collections in different countries in Europe and around the world.
