Schnittke - Violin Concerto no 1
Khachaturian - Gayane: Sabre Dance
Khachaturian - Spartacus: Adagio of Spartacus and Phrygia (from Suite no 2)

This Valentine’s Day you can enjoy the thrill of spontaneous music making, as two of the UK’s most outstanding young musicians join forces with the RCM Philharmonic for a special all-Russian programme, put together in less than 24 hours.

First, we offer an unmissable chance to hear RCM Concerto Competition winner (and YouTube star) Joo Yeon Sir perform Schnittke’s powerful and dramatic Violin Concerto, strongly influenced by Shostakovich.

Joining her on the platform is rising star conductor Graham Ross, who in 2010 at the age of just 24 made his Proms debut and was appointed as Director of Music at Clare College, Cambridge. He directs two favourite ballet extracts by Aram Khachaturian – if you don’t recognise their names you’ll certainly recognise the tunes of these much-loved pieces.
