With his sharp wit and charmingly cheeky onstage persona, stand-up comedian Tez Ilyas was one of the breakthrough acts at the 2015 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He is now bringing his critically acclaimed debut show TEZ Talks, performed at the Pleasance Courtyard, to London’s Soho Theatre from 3rd-6th February.

Sharp suited Tez is a British National Pakistani (or BNP for short), in his show he endows his audience as potential converts to Islam, who have just completed their ‘Conversion to Islam’ course… yes really!

Since Edinburgh Tez has been hugely in demand. A BBC Radio 4 pilot, based on TEZ Talks has already been commissioned, he was awarded a place on the BBC's Writers Academy (given to a very small pool of cutting edge talent), he’s written and filmed his own scripted comedy short for Sky (out over Christmas), he’s appeared on both The Now Show and the Children in Need Comedy Gala for BBC Radio 4, and appeared on both Virtually Famous (E4) and Live From the BBC (BBC Three).

Recognising it can be hard being Muslim in contemporary Britain, Tez is adamant that new British Muslims, or Muslims 2.0, don’t make the same pitfalls that native British Muslims, like him, have done. Presenting this bonus module centered on integration, it’s Tez’s hope that his new ‘brothers and sisters’ will be able to use his teachings to become fully integrated citizens. This includes upholding British values (whatever those are!), beard tips and the importance of keeping it halal! Through this truly bold show Tez leads his audience on a hilariously unique journey through this smart and satirical take on life in his Britain.
