Focusing Room

ArtCircle's first exhibition, Focusing Room, will open with a private view on Friday 19th May at 48 Albemarle Street, an imposing four-storey, white stuccoed building in the heart of Mayfair.

The exhibition, which following ArtCircle's short-term format will run for just two weeks, will showcase conceptual works by Adolf Luther, Heinz Mack, Alberto Biasi, Nanda Vigo and Christian Megers of the Zero Group as well as works by Nicolas Schöffer and Peter Sedgley. It will be curated by Bettina Ruhrberg of the Museum of Modern Art in Goslar, Germany.

Forged in the late 1950's by the German artists Otto Piene and Heinz Mack, Zero fostered artistic discovery by promoting a new environment unconstrained by past artistic traditions. The “zero” in the name exists to highlight the group's affinities with Minimalism and Italian Arte Povera.

Many of the works that feature in the presentation have never been shown in the UK before, and include Adolf Luther’s epic installation, Focusing Space (1968), on loan from the MoMA in Goslar. Comprised of twenty concave mirrors arranged on sets of five on a wooden table and spot lit from above, this interactive installation renders light visible as its own autonomous, matter-less medium.

ArtCircle, is the new curator-led, pop-up platform that will stage museum standard exhibitions across the world beginning with Focusing Room. Central to their philosophy is to work closely with internationally renowned curators and art historians, allowing them to realise museum-quality, scholarly shows on a more intimate scale than might otherwise be possible.
