Meet Strephon, a lowly shepherd, and Phyllis, a ward of the Lord Chancellor. They're madly in love. There's just one problem - Phyllis' guardian won't let them get married; in fact the whole House of Lords wants to marry her instead. Oh, and Strephon hasn't dared to tell her that he's actually half-fairy, and his fairy family is prepared to turn the country upside down to make him happy. The scene is set for the political clash of the century: Fairies versus Lords!

Iolanthe is regarded by many as Gilbert and Sullivan’s finest and most enchanting collaboration. Its affectionate satire of the perennial absurdities of our political system coupled with gentle whimsy and delightful music make it one of the most beloved of the Savoy operas.

Grosvenor Light Opera Company is one of London’s leading amateur operatic societies and has staged over 70 productions of Gilbert and Sullivan’s operas.
