The 2017 Bow Open Show launches alongside Open Studios annually in Bow Arts’ Nunnery Gallery, and this year’s curator is renowned British sculptor Alex Chinneck. Chinneck has selected work from Bow Arts’ vast artist network, which numbers over 500 from 13 studio sites and its education programme. Chinneck – who is known for his attention grabbing public art, his life-sized upside pylon is landed permanently by Greenwich’s O2 – said of his selection: “I hope to collate a conceptually accessible cross-disciplinary body of works that can be enjoyed by any onlooker, irrespective of their interest in the arts.” With 19 artists selected, Chinneck’s playful selection focuses on shape and includes painting, photography and works on paper, with work that encompasses the very current themes of politics, consumption and the longing for simpler things.
