OnBlackheath, in partnership with John Lewis, has released the line-up for its mouth-watering demonstration stage at this year’s festival, which takes place on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th September.
The festival, which already boasts an impressive music line-up, is now tantalising taste buds by revealing the various chefs who will be cooking up a storm over the weekend in the John Lewis Food Village. Curated by Masterchef finalist and private chef Tony Rodd, the food line-up features a number of guest chefs from all walks of life, making sure there is something to suit every palate.
Saturday’s cookery line-up will feature chefs such as Jane Devonshire – the winner of MasterChef 2016. Jane’s catalogue of recipes ranges from the modest Roast Chicken to the more indulgent Fresh Lobster Pasta with Tomato Chilli and Tarragon.
Also making an appearance on the first day of the festival will be Gary Maclean, who won MasterChef: The Professionals last year. Maclean, 45, is the senior chef lecturer at the City of Glasgow College and a father of five. He defeated his fellow finalists with a winning menu of a razor clam starter, a Highland Roe Deer main, and a chocolate pistachio ganache for pudding. Being praised as a “gentleman of the kitchen” by celebrity chef Marcus Wareing, his is a demonstration not to be missed.
The highlight on Sunday will be Michael Bremner, who has appeared on BBC2’s Great British Menu, and is the owner and head chef at Brighton’s 64 Degrees restaurant. In his critically acclaimed restaurant, Bremner puts an emphasis on patrons sharing small plates of food with an aim of creating a more social dining atmosphere.
The John Lewis Food Village will also be home to award-winning street food, pop-up restaurants and the local Meantime Craft Brewery Bar – ensuring visitors are both well fed and well hydrated.
The festival’s impressive food-based line-up is complimented by an equally impressive music line-up. Saturday will see the likes of Travis, Metronomy, De La Soul, Kate Tempest and Craig Charles Funk & Soul Club take to the stage.
On Sunday the main stage will feature The Libertines, Seasick Steve, Jake Bugg, KT Tunstall and Fun Lovin’ Criminals so you’re sure to find something to jump around to – once the food has digested, of course.
OnBlackheath festival also provides an area for children and families which will host various entertainers across the weekend.
Comedian and writer Julian Clary will be reading excerpts from his book series and will be joined by award-winning children’s illustrator David Roberts. Well known for his popular series of Dirty Bertie books, David has earned great acclaim for his distinctive style as well as his collaboration with some of Britain’s finest children’s authors, including Julia Donaldson, Sally Gardner, Philip Ardagh and Jacqueline Wilson.
To celebrate the launch of the programme, festival tickets for under 12s are currently free until Friday 30 June 2017 to encourage families to make the most of this incredible family ticket offer while it’s available.
Also joining the children’s line-up will be Children’s Laureate (2007-2009) novelist, poet and author of the enduring classic We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, Michael Rosen. Other key highlights include an appearance by the BBC CBeebies show Mister Maker, teaching and entertaining pre-schoolers in fun and imaginative ways.
They will be joining the festival’s classic Village Green Sports Day with egg and spoon races, three-legged races and tug-of-war. Also on the bill for the children’s area will be festival favourites face painting, a craft zone with Daemon and Doppelganger, Hugh Jart painting wall, flower creation workshops, circus workshops, a pirate ship for climbing adventurers, wandering performers and soft play areas for under 5’s.
