Across Peckham & Nunhead

Peckham & Nunhead Free Film Festival 2017 is back this Friday, 1st September!

Now in its 8th year this community based festival run by volunteers brings Peckham and Nunhead people together to view films in a vast variety of settings, and the #PNFFF team need your help this year.

The festival kicks off this Friday September 1st on Peckham Rye with a bike-powered screening, in collaboration with Electric Pedals, of the classic Singin' in the Rain. The next night, 2nd September, sees a return to Nunhead Cemetery with a screening of Werner Herzog’s Nosferatu. These films won our public poll earlier in the year, and there are always big crowds attending these outdoor events. If you can help with stewarding and, under supervision, set up and takedown of the screen and audience areas, please drop an email to [email protected]. If you are first aid trained that would be most helpful to note.

The festival spans 1st – 10th September with 20 different events happening at lots of different venues. In the midweek enjoy a pizza and GoodFellas in true Mafioso style at the Crust Conductor in Copeland Park or discover a hidden gem of British cinema Deep End at Space @ 61, both on Wednesday 6th.

Start the weekend by enjoying a Persian afternoon tea on Friday at Persepolis while watching Raving Iran. Then the same evening those with a taste for horror films head to Safehouse 1 for Night of the Living Dead.

The festival offers food for thought too; The Shadow World, an investigation into the multi-billion dollar arms trade, is showing at the Montague Arms on 4th. Peckham Library hosts a screening of Paragraph 175 in which historian Klaus Müller interviews survivors of the Nazi persecution of homosexuals on Tuesday 6th. A Plastic Ocean brings to light the consequences of our global disposable lifestyle, in the appropriate venue of Southwark Waste Management Facility on Thursday 7th.

Films that highlight the links between humans and the environment continue with screenings of Flicker + Pulse at Glengall Wharf Garden on Sunday 3rd and The Hunt for the Wilderpeople in Northfield House community gardens on Sunday 10th.

The Afrikans on Film at the Bussey Building on Saturday 9th is a one day festival in the festival. Drawing lots of people, the selection of films and the discussions that take place on this day are always impressive and wide-ranging. Then learn how to make your own films with Smartphone Filmmaking Workshop on Sunday 10th.

Keep checking our website freefilmfestivals.org/peckham-nunhead for details about this and all the screenings.

Thanks, and whether you want to volunteer or be a keen viewer we hope to see you at the events this year….remember to share your photos at the events on social media #PNFFF.
