The Workshop will play host to the Fire Engine Festival this September, showcasing the history of the fire engine through the ages. From the earliest motorised fire engines to London Fire Brigade’s brand new pump, the family friendly festival will welcome visitors of all ages. There will also be creative workshops hosted by Institute of Imagination and Kidesign, with the opportunity to build your own flashing fire engine using motors and LED lights. There will be an under 5’s area for the young and slightly older generation to work together and build a fire engine. Or – if you fancy getting your fingers dirty, Meanwhile Club will be running crocus cup planting classes, where visitors can repot plants into fine china, celebrating the Royal Doulton’s history in Lambeth. There will also be the chance to learn about the heritage of the engines, how they work and the opportunity to try on fire fighter uniforms, all taking place in the building that was used as the Brigade’s original fire engine workshops for 70 years.
