The 2018 Playing Shakespeare with Deutsche Bank production for schools and families will be Much Ado About Nothing, opening at Shakespeare’s Globe on 23 February and running until 21 March. There will be six performances for families with ticket prices from £5 to £15.

The fast-paced productions, performed by Globe actors in the Globe theatre, are created with 11 to 18 year olds in mind. They retain Shakespeare’s text, edited to around 100-minutes, and vividly explore character and issues which are as relevant to young people today as when Shakespeare first wrote the works.

The first Playing Shakespeare with Deutsche Bank production in 2007 was also Much Ado About Nothing. Award-winning director, Michael Oakley was the assistant director on that production and he returns to direct the 2018 run. ‘It is a massive responsibility introducing thousands of young people to Shakespeare’, says Michael. ‘These are important stories. They raise so many issues relevant to young people. Much Ado About Nothing invites us to challenge our preconceptions about image and the way we present ourselves to each other and society. Particularly relevant in the world today, that in our search for truth, common sense and instinct should prevail as we learn from mistakes and forgive.’

Since 2007 Globe Education and Deutsche Bank’s partnership has given over 170,000 free tickets to school students to see a performance at the Globe. For many of them it will have been their first experience of live theatre, let alone Shakespeare. The partnership between Deutsche Bank and Globe Education is part of its youth engagement programme, Born to Be. Deutsche Bank is committed to inspiring young people, supporting them in their studies and creating the opportunity for them to achieve their full potential.

Much Ado About Nothing directed by Michael Oakley will run from 23 February – 21 March 2018. Costumes and set will be designed by Andrew D. Edwards. Booking opens on 25 November for members of the public to buy tickets. For more information and to book, go online to http://www.shakespearesglobe.com/playing-shakespeare-family
