Terminal illness charity Marie Curie is to unveil a ‘Garden of Light’ of 4,000 illuminated daffodils in London’s Paternoster Square to mark the launch of the charity’s annual Great Daffodil Appeal.

The immersive art installation will be open to the public from Thursday 1st until Sunday 11th March and will allow visitors to walk through the daffodils and stained-glass structure, creating a place for personal reflection and calm. The space will include a trail of sculptural daffodils, inspired by the charity’s emblem, which will emerge from the flower beds, each individually designed by artists and famous faces.

While walking amongst the 4,000 daffodils, visitors can listen to letters from patient’s families, describing the vital care and support their relatives received from Marie Curie Nurses. The moving audio brings to life a small selection of the more than 50,000 people each year that turn to Marie Curie for support, creating a poignant tribute to the charity’s work in caring for people living with a terminal illness.

Visitors will be able to make a donation in return for a daffodil pin in support of the Great Daffodil Appeal at the Garden of Light and can also leave behind a memory of a lost loved one - by writing a message on a daffodil and placing onto one of two ‘Memory Walls’ by the installation.

Marie Curie is still looking for volunteers to collect donations in return for a daffodil pin during the Great Daffodil Appeal. Every hour donated, every penny raised, every daffodil worn, helps fund crucial hours of care at home and in Marie Curie Hospices for people living with a terminal illness. Join millions of others supporting the appeal and give families quality time with loved ones when it matters most.
