Don’t miss the world premiere of a special concert bringing together Indian classical music with contemporary jazz. For the first time, two of the finest cross-cultural collaborators of these musical traditions come together, legendary vocalist of South Indian (Carnatic) music, Aruna Sairam and Soumik Datta, British Indian composer and leading musician of the sarod (19 string fretless lute). For Carnatic maestro Aruna Sairam, this collaboration is her latest of many – including Sufi, jazz and Gregorian chant. Not only a sarod virtuoso and composer, Soumik Datta also creates fabulous new pieces, collaborating with musicians from around the world, from Korea to Congo.
A team of improvisers will join them: Pirashanna Thevarajah on morsing, kanjira and mridangam; Cormac Byrne on bodhrán and percussion; and Al MacSween on piano.
