The Sondheim classic with a 21st century twist.

Produced by The Cockpit in collaboration with All Star Productions and Trilby Productions

After a sellout production in 2014 at Ye Olde Rose and Crown Theatre, we are delighted to bring you this comically dark masterpiece of a musical where well known fairy tales interweave to create a magical world which suddenly turns upside down revealing the 'Grimm' darkness of these traditional stories.
Beware of what you wish for...

Performed in the round, you will feel that you too are in the middle of the forest with our ensemble of 17 larger than life characters drawn from modern day Britain, complete with a cocaine-snorting Rapunzel, a paedophile Wolf and an evil stepmother straight from Towie.

'Director Tim McArthur clearly understands the power and magic of this material and succeeds in communicating it down to his wonderful cast..... To help them, he has taken the liberty of re-setting the action in the present day, a genius stroke that allows for the trawling of countless tropes from 21st century British culture, from The Jeremy Kyle Show and The Only Way is Essex to William and Kate’s wedding and the selfie craze. (Is it now de rigueur to include a group selfie element in every stage musical?!)' MusicalTheatreReview.com

'the orchestrations are beautiful and utterly faultless.... Act II is a tear-jerker No One Is Alone is particularly heart-rending....This is yet another magical production from Clingham and co where they all live happily ever after. Faultless music, a carefully crafted storyline and devilish humour apparent in the direction, ramping up the fun factor even further.'ViewsFromTheGods.co.uk
