Honouring the powerful imprint female sporting legends and rising stars have made on the world, the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) is launching Tennis on the Thames on the eve of The Championships at Wimbledon – a first of its kind public celebration of women who are shaping the world through their pioneering spirit and achievements both on and off the court.

The biggest names in women’s tennis will gather on the Southbank of the River Thames on Thursday 28th June at London’s iconic Oxo Tower and Bernie Spain Gardens. The one-day, outdoor festival will celebrate the powerful stories of female icons with an interactive photography exhibition, spotlighting the journey of each woman’s unique success and giving guests the rare opportunity to meet their heroes while immersing themselves in the sport.

Locals and visitors are invited to join the celebration for an unforgettable tennis experience, from playing tennis on a mini pop-up court, meeting WTA legend and winner of nine Grand Slam titles Monica Seles, to kicking back on the lawn and watching live action from the Nature Valley International in Eastbourne on a giant screen. In true summer style, fans will be able to soak up the sun as they explore the exclusive WTA photo exhibit, test the strength of their serve, win cool prizes and meet some of their favourite players with photos and autograph signings.

WTA President, Micky Lawler shared her enthusiasm for the event stating, “For the past 45 years the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) has been at the forefront of change in women’s sport. From Billie Jean King fighting for gender equality to Serena Williams ushering in a new era of power and athleticism, the WTA has left an undeniable impression. The Tennis on the Thames event is a celebration of the WTA, our players and their personal accomplishments that have sparked positive change both on and off the court.”

Fans interested in attending can RSVP by visiting the WTA’s Facebook page and stay up-to-date on the latest event announcements. Tennis enthusiasts from across the globe can be part of the action live throughout the day by following the WTA’s social channels @WTA.

Proud partners of the WTA Tennis on the Thames include Dubai Duty Free, Häagen-Dazs, SAP, and USANA, the Cellular Nutrition Company.
