Set in the first century AD, Son of Man explores Jesus’ experiences of growing up as an illegitimate child in Roman-occupied Israel.

A battle of faith and reality, family and empire, flesh and spirit, it lifts the veil on this ancient controversy - delving deeply into the intersections between religion and personal identity, giving us a unique insight into one boy's journey to find peace and acceptance in a deceptive and manipulative world.

Part ancient kitchen-sink drama part epic mystery play, Son Of Man shows Jesus torn between Roman and Jewish influence when the young carpenter when he finds himself at work on a Greek theatre in the city of Sepphoris. There he becomes involved in a cult drama which will reveal his ultimate destiny.

Although fiction, the events that take place in the play are adapted and imagined from real life situations in the ancient world. Some of them still with us today: colonisation, bigotry, international/personal identity, false news, gender roles and secularism.

The play contains two LGBTQ characters and one sex worker. There are also Jewish and Asian characters. Audiences from Ireland, Africa, Asia, South America and other places with a rich Christian history may find this re-imaging to be especially intriguing.
