The Modern Slave explores the themes of Modern Slavery existing here in the UK through story-telling, short film and art.

Hear the story of Michael (winner of the 2014 Unchosen Modern Slavery short film competition) – a homeless man, coerced into farm labour, only to find himself enslaved and controlled for years to come. Or meet Hung, a Vietnamese national who comes to the UK to work, only to be enslaved within a Cannabis factory.

Modern Slavery & Trafficking - Modern Slavery is increasingly visible on the national agenda. The Home Office estimates there maybe as many as 13,000 people held in slavery here in the UK. Trafficking and slavery is a critical global issue - an estimated 24.9 million victims are believed to be trapped in modern day slavery.

Join us at Deptford Cinema on Aug 16th where we explore how modern slavery exists through short film, courtesy of charity Unchosen; all films are based on real case stories. And visit our exhibition – an interpretation of modern day slavery through graphics design, produced by designer Bimal Tailor.

Door open at 6:30 pm; screening commences at 7pm.
