NIKI VOROS is a singer who has steadily built an impressive name for herself on the Hungarian Jazz scene. An Award-winning vocalist, she received the Best Jazz Singer award at the Paks talent festival in 2007 and 2008 and graduated from the Jazz Department of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in 2010 with honours. She started her own band with her pianist brother Laszlo in 2005 and they have been performing regularly at Hungarian jazz clubs and festivals ever since. Full of character, Niki’s distinctive voice has been described as “..slightly smoky” and her improvisations as “clever but modest, she sings with expression and is in complete harmony with her musicians”. She is a true jazz singer who is capable of turning almost any material into music of high quality, with a vocal style that combines intelligent improvisation, interesting arrangements and real harmonic appreciation of other instruments. Niki’s debut album “Ask Yourself Why”, featuring the songs of French composer Michel Legrand, appeared in the summer of 2012 to considerable critical acclaim, with her next recording due out in 2019. A superb vocalist, as she demonstrated last time she appeared her at the Club, she will be accompanied this evening by the standout UK pianist Tim Lapthorn (Chris Potter, Eddie Henderson) and his trio. As a critic said of her recently "She has the voice, she has the style and she has the spirit".
