Written between 1829-39, the Brontës’ young writings offer an interesting glimpse into a nation recovering from the ramifications of large-scale conflict. Together, they created the Glass Town and Angrian sagas, which were moulded from war commentary and poetry of the present day. This talk by Dr Emma Butcher, author of the forthcoming book The Brontës and War, will explore their uninhibited, complex world, focusing on their fascination with the Romantic figurehead, Napoleon, and their unusual contribution to Romantic war writings of the period.
