What's the ugliest thing you have said? What's the ugliest word you have been called? When do you feel ugly? When do you feel beautiful? In this poetry workshop, poet Dean Atta will lead up to 17 writers to create responses to the 17 panels of We Were Ugly, the largest work to date by artist Hyon Gyon. Accompanied by poems from Danez Smith, Hieu Minh Nguyen and Warsan Shire, you will face ugliness to find beauty.

In collaboration with Poetry School.
