For International Women's Day 2019, Zodiac Film Club is bringing a triple bill to Beyond Retro Dalston. We'll be celebrating this year's women's day with an eclectic trio of female friendship movies.
On Wednesday 6 March, we're kicking off with neon dream Tangerine (2015). Sean Baker's improvised day in the life of two trans sex workers is a colourfully chaotic screwball dramedy with a tender friendship at its core.
Next up on Thursday 7 March, we're introducing you to a rarely screened classic, Girlfriends (1978) - the female friendship movie that influenced the whole genre. It’s one that we’re particularly excited to share for IWD as director Claudia Weill faded into relative obscurity after it bombed at the box office at a time when films about female friendship felt far too radical.
Finally, we’ve saved what we truly and earnestly believe to be one of the greatest films of all time - Romy and Michele's High School Reunion (1997) - for Friday 8th March. The story of two weird-ass party girls who feel just fine about their lives until they decide to go to their former school’s 10-year reunion, it’s got everything we love about cinema; a costume change every 30 seconds, 100s of quotable lines and supporting performances from Janeane Garofalo and Alan Cummings.
Tickets are £5 only, with free drinks on arrival!
Doors open at 7pm each night, with films starting at 8pm, see you there!
