Roger Beaujolais with Jim Mullen (guitar) and Steve Watts (double bass)

There was a certain inevitability that major instrumentalists Roger Beaujolais and Jim Mullen would end up working together sooner or later. Both built their careers from self-taught beginnings and have now come together with this intriguing drumless trio. We are thrilled to be presenting one of its first shows!

Both Roger Beaujolais and Jim Mullen began their careers in the rocky, bluesy end of the music spectrum. Beaujolais toured the world with the Chevalier Brothers before his own Acid Jazz funk success with Vibraphonic. Mullen began playing with bands like Kokomo, Piblokto, and The Average White Band, leading to his glorious years with Dick Morrissey. Since then both have been on innumerable albums by pop and rock artists while exploring their jazz roots, inspired by thumb picking guitarist Wes Montgomery or Blue Note vibes legend Bobby Hutcherson.

Since his performances with the revolutionary Loose Tubes, bassist Steve Watts has been a first call for many of the leading musicians of his generation such as Stan Sulzmann, Norma Winstone and John Surman. This unique format will show off Watts’ rich sound and sure-footed time to perfection.

Our next season of Jazz in the House kicks off this April with Roger Beaujolais alongside Jim Mullen and Steve Watts. Doors open at 8pm and the concert begins at 8.30pm. The bar will be open from late afternoon for drinks and snacks.
