From 6 – 17 September, Sotheby’s will present Chris Levine: Be Light, a specially curated capsule selection of six iconic works by the renowned light artist, Chris Levine. The work will be shown at Sotheby’s, London, as an auction in conjunction with the much-anticipated autumn edition of the Made in Britain Sale.

Chris Levine: Be Light will present two entirely unique artworks, including the large Lightness of Being (blue with Crystals) (pictured above) – the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II which has been identified as one of the most iconic images of the 21st century. In addition, the unique Parabolic 1.3 [Pink](2018), will be shown alongside supreme portraits of Kate Moss and Banksy, an innovative LED Blipvert sculpture, Light is Love (2018), and stunning set of three crystal silkscreen crosses.

Levine aims to transport visitors into a meditative realm, from super sensory light fields and laser projections, to his distinctive three-dimensional portraiture and laser-etched works on paper. This small but diverse collection of works exemplifies Levine’s determined and creative exploration across many creative fields, a quality that has differentiated his practice from the traditional disciplines of photography and elevated his profile as a truly independent and innovative artist.

In last year’s September edition of the Made in Britain Sale (2018), Levine’s iconic portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Lightness of Being (Pink), 2015, shone as one of the highlight lots, estimated at £70,000 - £100,000 and selling for £150,000.

Levine returns to Sotheby’s for this special showcase, curated by the artist himself as a celebration of his multidisciplinary talents and close affiliation with the great British art historically championed by Sotheby’s Made in Britain sale. All six artworks will be on sale as an online auction from 6 September.
