Every three weeks, on Friday afternoon, the Poetry Appreciation Group meets in the Chester Room and for an hour and a half we read poetry out loud to each other.....Birth, Death, Light, Music, South America, Cats, Time......Vikram Seth, Thomas Hardy, Chaucer, Stevie Smith, Lemn Sissay.....and those are just a handful of the topics. The range of poets is gynormous because, as it is a private reading and not a public performance, we can bring poems by living poets as well as those long dead.....and we do!

Numbers of participants are limited to a dozen, so that each of us can read at least three poems on the topic or chosen poet, and it is always a magical afternoon. The power of spoken poetry shared communally reminds me of the opening of Keats's Endymion....." A thing of beauty is a joy for ever."

This is a taster session for those interested in joining PAG on a permanent basis. The theme this week is: Algernon Charles Swinburne
