Broadway, 1936. The Footlights Club provides a warm sense of community for the young performers who live there. Terry Randall is a smart, sharp and witty girl from the Midwest who is determined to become a leading stage actress. When she’s offered a Hollywood contract, will she abandon her love of theatre and head West?
The Broadway life is all here: the desperate round of auditions and agents; the sudden closing of a show that should have been a meal ticket for months; the opportunistic romances and the emotional breakdowns.
The women of the Footlights Club know the odds are stacked against them. As Terry says to her playwright boyfriend: “You don't know what it is to be an actress. You're a writer--if you feel something you can write it. But I can't act unless they let me.”
