The Fiddler is thrilled to welcome Ali & The Thieves as they present LEONARD COHEN KOANS.

Following on from a recent sell-out London date, this will be a night of celebration to poetic Leonard Cohen.

ali hughes -
vocalist, storyteller, interpreter: a soulful, velvety voice that crosses over from soul to rock to pop to jazz with ease and emotional honesty. as well as ali & the thieves, ali is lead vocalist with the Brooklyn based outfit Sunday Swoon (Curtis J Brewer+Adam Armstrong), has toured and recorded as backing vocalist for Canadian artist, jane siberry and has sung backing vocals for k.d. lang, Suzanne Vega, Rufus Wainwright and Gyan while touring with jane.

daryl wallis -
composer of music and creator of sound design for theatre, television and film: Daryl’s versatility has seen him perform in opera, musical, jazz, theatre productions and music and arts festivals internationally.

The 15 year collaboration between vocalist Ali Hughes and composer Daryl Wallis is made evident in their exciting approach to Leonard Cohen's work, inspired by the deep influence of his spiritual discipline.

Leonard Cohen Koans explores his poetry, prose and song through the lens of the Zen Koan, which may be defined most simply as ‘a paradoxical statement or question used as a meditation discipline for novices’.

ali & the thieves is the music collective which sprouted in australia and continues to grow internationally with ever-evolving collaborations. ali & the thieves have produced works both recorded and live for theatre, concert, film, cabaret, private and public events, and are excited to be collaborating with local UK artists for their shows in London ahead of tour dates in New York and San Francisco.

Loved by diehard Cohen fans and new-comers alike, LEONARD COHEN KOANS is an inspiring celebration of the spirit, music and poetry of one of the greatest songwriters of the modern age. Part-concert and part-homage, these exciting and original interpretations explore Cohen's music through jazz, gospel and rock territory, exposing the incredible musicality in Cohen’s work. LEONARD COHEN KOANS weaves a new pathway into your experience of this glorious Poet of the Holy Sinners.

“exceptionally well-crafted…***1/2 out of ****” Michael Giltz, Huffington Post NYC
