‘On the Edge’ - an evening of travel & conservation at the Royal Geographical Society in aid of Explorers against Extinction wildlife projects.

Join Explorers against Extinction and special guests for a unique and entertaining evening celebrating travel and wildlife.

Hear the latest on the projects being supported by Explorers against Extinction in 2019.

We are delighted to be joined by Ian Redmond OBE, chair of Ape Alliance and renowned for his work with both apes and elephants. For more than 35 years Ian has been associated with Mountain Gorillas, through research, filming, tourism and conservation work. He was mentored by the late Dian Fossey and introduced Sir David Attenborough to the gorillas of Rwanda and Zaire in 1978, for the famous BBC ‘Life on Earth’ sequences.

Ian will be joined by Dr Julian Fennessy, co-founder of Giraffe Conservation Foundation, based in Namibia. Julian is flying in from Uganda where EAE is helping to fund a translocation of Nubian Giraffe from Murchison Falls to Pian Upe. In addition Peter Blinston, founder of Painted Dog Conservation, based in Zimbabwe will give an update on their work, focusing on the anti poaching unit operating in and around Hwange, supported by EAE.

Guests can also enjoy wildlife conservation exhibitions ‘Sketch for Survival’ and ‘Focus for Survival’, chat to our Young Explorer of 2019, Jack O’Shea, (who is just back from his first expedition to cycle solo from Kenya to South Africa), and visit the Explorer Trail with William Stanley, great grandson of H.M Stanley.

Speakers: Ian Redmond OBE, chair of Ape Alliance; Dr Julian Fennessy, Giraffe Conservation Foundation; Peter Blinston, Painted Dog Conservation & special guests.
