For our autumn concert, the Concordia Chamber Choir brings you a unique programme devoted largely to the work of Johannes Brahms, one of the great composers of the 19th century Romantic Period. Our centrepiece is the magisterial German Requiem. Originally written to be performed with a full orchestra, Brahms later prepared this version for soloists, chorus and two pianists with a single piano. Yet instead of diminishing its impact, it is, if anything, enhanced, allowing the voices full rein to soar and capture the music's intensity. Our soloists will be Helen Meyerhoff and Alex Jones.

We will also bring you songs from Schumann’s Frauenliebe und Leben sung by Helen Meyerhoff, accompanied by Luis Parés and, not least, the stunningly beautiful Brahms Geistliche's Lied, a 'spiritual song' whose mood anticipates the great Requiem itself and whose lyrics contain the line 'let no sad thought oppress thee.' We hope you will take that wise advice and join us for a night of memorable music.
