Maltre / Performance: Tom Green, Federica Mazzara and Aida Silvestri in conversation

Join our trio of speakers who will explore the value of art to communicate, raise awareness and push social change around issues of displacement and the current refugee crisis.

Following an exhibition tour led by Drawing Room co-director Mary Doyle, presentations and open dialogue will draw on the contemporary relevance of Marc Bauer’s show thinking about empathy, sensitivity, anonymity and power in relation to images which speak about migration.

Federica Mazzara from University of Westminster, recently published Reframing Migration: Lampedusa, Border Spectacle and Aesthetics of Subversion and has co-curated Sink Without Trace: An exhibition on Migrant Deaths at Sea, bringing together artists whose work comments on the urgent subject of modern day migration.

Tom Green is from Counterpoints Arts, a leading national organisation in the field of arts, migration and cultural change. He will talk about recent work they have done with artists Manaf Halbouni & Tania Bruguera.

Aida Silvestri will present Even this Will Pass, a body of work which uses anonymous photographic portraits, stitch and poetry to speak about the personal stories of those emigrating from Eritrea to the UK.
