The ‘Hart’ Of London Christmas Sculpture Returns To St James's

The Heart of London Business Alliance, Veolia and Westminster City Council present the ‘Hart’ of London for a second year, an innovative and interactive Christmas light sculpture designed to encourage the public to be more mindful of their plastic waste consumption during the festive season.

Made out of 2,000 plastic bottles, the life size, illuminated stag designed by acclaimed artist Faith Bebbington, will debut this Christmas from 25th November until 3rd January 2020. in the beautiful St. James’s Church gardens.

The installation includes ‘tap donation’ technology and each tap received with a payment card will see the stag’s heart light up, creating a magical moment to be remembered this Christmas. The fixed £3 tap donation will go towards the St James’s Church’s charity which offers night shelters for the homeless, support for asylum seekers and free counselling services.
Heart of London Business Alliance and Veolia continue to work hard on environmental initiatives across the West End, leading the sustainability agenda with Westminster City Council. The Hart of London installation is a celebration of this partnership and the service delivered to the area, which has seen Heart of London businesses actively unite by donating plastic milk bottles from their businesses to create this festive sculpture.

From October 2018 to September 2019, Westminster’s Commercial Waste Services operated by Veolia collected 3,000 tonnes of waste and recycling from 350 businesses associated with Heart of London Business Alliance, 27.4% of which was recycled and the remainder was sent to energy recovery. Recycling with Veolia saved 257 trees and the amount of waste diverted away from landfill and sent to energy recovery generated enough energy to power 54,000 showers.
